Great piece. As a father it’s so hard because we can see what’s there. But pushing only made them recede. They know their his mistakes. I remember the car rides home hearing all the things I’d done wrong. It came from a place of love but it wasn’t what I needed at that time.

I can relate to this. The hard part is that the feedback usually comes from a place of love. We see what they’re capable of and want to help.
But I’ve learned that most kids already know when they struck out, booted a ground ball, or missed an assignment.
What they don’t always know is whether they’re still loved, safe, and enough after it happens.
That’s what the ride home is for.
Love the hat on/hat off idea. Also the picture made me laugh because my 9-year old's favorite part of his games are the snacks afterwards.
Especially when they are the snacks we don’t buy at our house!
